I'm Shane Newman - an engineer who happens to know a lot about motorbikes including custom motorbike building, restoration, and of course, racing!
I have over 30 years' experience across motor-trade, mechanics, engineering, design, quality control testing, importing and logistics. To say I'm obsessed with building and racing all sorts of things with electric and petrol engines is a bit of an understatement!
I started NRCD as a way to try and resolve many of the issues that came with building and riding Chinese made motorbikes, in particular a lack of quality parts.
Having achieved this I then started producing affordable D.I.Y bike kits and saw a real value for schools and educational institutions across New Zealand to use these in their Technology classes.
Over the years I've also met some wonderful teachers who are truly passionate about their students acquiring practical skills they can turn into jobs, while also being engaged while they learn, and I've seen students build practical and exciting projects that encourage them to realise their full potential and develop skills leading to engineering apprenticeships & traineeships.
The support from schools on our journey from parts business to engineering motor resources company has been fantastic. Now, students in over 200 schools across New Zealand are building NRCD electric and petrol powered mini-bikes, motards, sidecars, go-carts and more! It's really humbling to be able to pursue my passion and be able to pass that passion on to the next generation.
I'd love to talk with you about how NRCD can make a difference to your students too, so please do contact me for more information.
